Quarries tour
where Carrara marble born

The marble excavation dates back a long time ago. The way of working in the caves of the Apuan Alps has evolved over time to speed up the work procedures and, above all, to secure the worker. In fact, it has passed from the picks, the wedges and the gunpowder, passing through the mines to reach the modern diamond wire.
The transport sees in its history the method of "lizzatura" and wagons towed by oxen evolved then on rail and then on the road.
Marble extracted from Carrara quarries is exported all over the world and still remains one of the most prestigious materials today.
